Exams Begin Tomorrow!

Exams for all periods are tomorrow!

Tips for Getting Ready:

- Don't try and cram tonight! You're ready!
- Go to bed early (or at your regular time)
- Don't eat anything funky or new tonight for dinner
- If you normally eat breakfast, eat breakfast. If you don't, then
don't.
- Laugh A LOT between now and tomorrow!
- Move through the test answering the questions you know first. Then
you can study tomorrow night things that you aren't so sure about and
nail them down on Wednesday.
- There will be plenty of time to work!!!
- You're going to do great!

Exam Time!

Hi all!

So, after a successful Art's Eve on Thursday and Our Town performance last night, I'm finally getting around to posting the exam review topics.  You'll find in the next post a list of topics that your kids will need to review for they will be on the final exam, Tuesday and Wednesday.  We've spent the past few days (and tomorrow) reviewing things that they feel they need more practice on.

Again, the exam is more of a diagnostic than anything else--to help me know, in another way, where your children are at skill-wise.

Hope you've all had a great weekend!

Test Day!

Today was a test day in all morning classes. The kids will receive
feedback tomorrow during class, as well as a checklist of things that
they will want to review for their final exam, next Tuesday &
Wednesday, May 13-14. I will post that up here as well, tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Review Day for Integer Mastery

Today, as were the past two weeks and as the next week and a half will be, was a FULL day in first period.

We started out with a warm-up (picture posted below), and then moved to talk about their Integer Mastery Test which will be tomorrow.

For this test, the kids should be able to:

  • Solve basic integer problems involving adding, subtracting, multiplying, and/or dividing
  • Solve a multi-step (harder) equation
  • Use the distributive property to simplify an expression
  • Combine like terms

Near the end of the period, the kids who needed to retake their Adding/Subtracting Integers Mastery test got a chance to do so.

Homework tonight is to work on the Review for the Test tomorrow.  Unfortunately, tomorrow marks the end of Integer Boot Camp! :(  However, They should get their "stars" tomorrow for their hard work. :)

AS Mastery & Cartesian Cartoons

Today we took our Addition and Subtraction Mastery Test and there are quire a few who are going to have to take it over on Monday.  Study over the weekend!  Practice those integers!

Also over the weekend the kids are going to need to complete another cartesian cartoon - that they got to pick out today in class.

REMINDER - Integer FINAL MASTERY is Next TUESDAY.

Have a great weekend!

Surfing on the Coordinate Plane

HEADS UP -- MASTERY of Adding and Subtracting Integers Quiz is tomorrow!!!

Today we worked mainly with getting re-acquainted with the coordinate plane.  We talked about the quadrants, the axes, the origin, and plotting points.

To practice plotting points, the kids have a cartesian cartoon to finish tonight.

I'll post the answer tonight -- the kids should be practicing their adding and subtracting of integers!

Missing Matthew!

Thanks to a luck of fate, I had car troubles this morning which kept me from being in any of first period!

So, the kids only got to work on a practice quiz for adding and subtracting integers mastery.

Hopefully, we'll get to my actual plans tomorrow!

ATFO

Add the opposite!

Today's lesson subtracting integers went pretty quickly--add the opposite, and then follow the adding integers rules.  :)

They do have homework, and it is front and back.

Make sure not to mess up these problems:

4 - 5 = 4 + -5

AND

4 - (-5) = 4 + (+5)

They are BOTH adding the opposite.

Upcoming Exam Days

Heads up posting--

All of my morning math classes take an end-of-year, cumulative final
exams. I wanted to go ahead and let you know those dates: May 13 &
14. Believe it or not, it really does take two days to complete the
exam. :)

And of course, the week prior to those days will be spent in review.
The kids will find this out this coming week.

Have a great weekend!

More Adding Integers

Today, with a few class members absent for the FEEN Conference, we checked our homework and got some hardcore adding integers practice down pat.  There were a total of 48 problems and those students who didn't finish and were absent from class need to finish over the weekend.

What a day!

What a day!

Today I shared with the kids some of the things I learned yesterday at my professional development day in Raleigh. Be on the lookout for more information about that soon in another post. :)

We worked with Adding Integers inside of equations today as well -- see the pictures of the examples below.

Their homework, should they choose to accept it, is to check their email this afternoon. In that email will be further instructions to help them complete their homework. :) If you check back tonight, I will have posted what they had to do!

Happy Friday!

TGIF!

Today the kids took their Multiplication & Division of Integers Mastery Quiz.  This will be for 2 of their 5 stars that they can earn during Integer Boot Camp.  Be on the lookout for the results on Monday.

This bring us to the close of half of the Integer Boot Camp--next week is Adding & Subtracting Integers.  Who knows what next week will look like!  Body art?? More funky homework assignments?  You'll have to stay tuned in to find out!

Integer Chanting :)

Today we spent much of our time in the Music House chanting the rules for multiplying/dividing integers to the sound of our drumming.  It was a hoot!  I wish I had a tape-recorder or video-recorder!

Positive times a positive is a positive
Positive times a negative is a negative
Negative times a positive is a negative
Negative times a negatives is a positive

The kids do have some homework--ten equations on a sheet. See the pic below.
